Cold, Flu and Cough
Posted on December 20 2016
Both the cold and flu (Influenza) are viral upper respiratory infections. There are over 200 different viruses known to be responsible for the common cold. A common cold usually lasts 10 days or more and a cough up to 3 weeks. Fortunately there is a lot we can do ourselves when it comes to symptom relief.
The effort we make will only ease the symptoms in order to feel a bit better though. The body heals through proper resting (sleep).
So what can YOU do?
Do: consume warm drinks, steaming helps to relieve your stuffy nose and head, stay hydrated, slow down and rest properly, limit drinks with caffeine or alcohol.
Our pharmacist recommends for symptom relief a day and night formula in the form of a pill or liquid from any brand e.g. Theraflu, Contac, Coricidin HBP, Alka Seltzer. Why the day and night combination? The night time combination will help you sleep better and this is what we need in order for the body to heal. Many brands offer a combination of painkillers, fever relievers, decongestants, antihistamines and or cough syrups which will help relief symptoms.
Also important is that in order to experience relief from symptoms, you would need to take the dosage as has been advised.
